3rd grade students from Holmes Elementary School are coming to the courthouse to participate in The Colony of Massachusetts v. The British Soldiers. Students learn about the Boston Massacre as well as John Adams’s role in it. Students then participate in an interactive mock trial to determine the guilt or innocence of the British soldiers.
I am looking for 4 volunteers to help facilitate this field trip.
Your Role As A Volunteer: As a volunteer, your responsibility would be working with student lawyers to help them craft the opening statements, witness questions, and closing arguments that they will deliver during the trial. The time commitment for volunteering is only an hour. We offer optional 45-minute monthly volunteer training at the Moakley Courthouse. Volunteer scripts are provided and Discovering Justice staff is always available to answer any questions or provide assistance. Discovering Justice staff facilitate and are present at every field trip.
Please find a volunteer guide here and tips for volunteers here.
Interested new volunteers are welcome to observe this field trip! For more information please reach out to Johnny Sadoff at 617-748-9639
